We have just completed our first You Tube type video for one of our clients. We shot the video outside the studio, with our 150 year old oak trees in the background ( yes that is a real background and not “green screen”). The singer ( Tony Henry) is sitting on a stool singing and playing acoustic guitar. The guitar was run direct, and the vocal mic came out of the Lucky Run mic locker and was placed just outside the shot. What makes this video special is that the audio was recorded in the studio, while he performed outside. We recorded audio with the camera as well, and then later replaced it with the audio done in Lucky Run Studio. The result is high end , studio quality audio on a simple You Tube video. We can do the same thing for you.
Don’t take my word for it. . . . . . go to You Tube, and type in Tony Henry 2012. Several videos may come up. . . . . . so look for the one that has a very “green” background. Be sure to listen on a good system or good headphones. If you might be interested in have a video like this ( we can do more a more sophisticated version if that would be of interest. Lucky Run Studio is proud to announce they have recently installed Equator Audio powered speakers in the control room. Since we believe our clients deserve working on great monitors, we went with the “flagship “ speaker of the Equator line: the Q 12.
These are truly amazing sounding speakers, with a unique design. Instead of having a separate tweeter and woofer, the tweeter is located in the center of the woofer making the sweet spot, in the control room, even bigger than before. Also, the single source speaker eliminates any phase issues that might mask certain sounds in your mix.
Talking about speakers is one thing, but listening to them is another. I invite any of you who are interested to set up a time to come out to Lucky Run and bring your favorite CD or most recent mix of one of your projects. I think you will be amazed at the sound.
In addition to the Q12 speakers, we have added a pair of sub-woofers to make sure you hear that “last octave” accurately. As an added bonus, we also have the Equator D5 powered monitors, which pound for pound may be the best small monitors on the planet. . . . . particularly for under $300 for the pair.
Give us a call . . . . . . . come out and give a listen. You will love the way your mixes sound

ATTENTION SINGERS:. . . . . . If you have an interest in pursuing music as a career, or if you are interested in becoming a more experienced and well-rounded singer, Lucky Run Studio is offering two different workshops for “Singing in the Studio”
These workshops are geared toward singers who perform live, but have not had as much experience in the recording studio. You will work with an experienced producer on such things as Stacking Vocals, Punching in Vocals, Double Tracking, Singing Harmony with Yourself , as well as other “studio tricks”. This is a great way to improve your skills and confidence in the studio.
ADDED BONUS: All singers will take home a high-quality recording of a song you select.
Workshop #1 : Takes place during a 2-3 hour session at Lucky Run Studio. In addition to the “studio Tricks” mentioned above, each singer will sing to a pre-recorded track (which they provide). Several performances of the song will be recorded and then, with the singers input, the vocals tracks will be combined to create one track of the best parts of the various “takes” (the process used on most recordings today). The final step is for the singer to be involved in the mixing and mastering of the song , which the singer will take home on a CD. Cost: $200.oo
Workshop #2: Takes place over two sessions ( usually about a week appart) and is set up for two singers. This will cover all the material in Workshop #1. and by having two singers, it also allows one singer at a time to be in the control room while the other singer is performing. This provides an invaluable experience to see how vocals are recorded and produced. In fact, the singer in the control room will help “produce” the vocals.
At the end of the first session, both singers will be given a song to sing during the following session. The singers will experience what it is like to be a hired “studio singer” working with a vocal producer. In addition, each singer will receive a recording of a song they select and participate in the mixing and mastering of that song. Cost: $250. per singer

We recently had the opportunity to record a four piece acapella group known as Ringside. The group is considered a “barbershop quartet”, though their material is diverse and extremely interesting. The group’s format is the traditional Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass. They put their own twist and humor on more contemporary material as well as the traditional barbershop standards.
The set-up in the studio is quite simple. . . . . . 4 great vocal mics, arranged in a tight circle. No headphones, no music, no click track! These are four guys singing at the same time with no music to “hide behind”. It may be recording in its simplest and purest form!
These guys are talented, entertaining, funny and a blast to record. We will be seeing them over the next several weeks, as they intend to do a full CD here at Lucky Run.
Ringside is affiliated with the Houston based organization called The Tidelanders, which promotes acapella singing here in Houston. Check ‘em out!
